Clean sweep for Glenelg in Vardon events

Glenelg's Connor Chant - 2015 Brian Ferris Memorial Trophy winner

Connor Chant, Elysia Yap and Ben Layton claimed their respective Vardon event titles at Glenelg on Sunday with the first clean sweep of its kind in our Club’s history.

Connor Chant collected the Brian Ferris Memorial Trophy after firing an even-par 36 hole total of 142, with rounds of 70, 72.  Chant, who recently spent some time away from the game, appears to have regained his confidence, taking out the title by four shots from fellow compatriot, Will Starkey.  Tied on 146 with Starkey was fellow Glenelg member, Sam Earl, finishing in 3rd place on a countback.  A 1-2-3 finish for the Glenelg crew.  In 4th place was defending champion, Jack Williams, a further two shots back.

Glenelg's Elysia Yap - 2015 Glenelg Women's Vardon winnerIn the Glenelg Women’s Vardon, Elysia Yap came out on top with rounds of 76, 78, 154 to defeat The Grange’s Ella Adams by three shots.  Yap has continued her solid form in 2015, taking out the Club Championship earlier in the year before representing the Club in the Women’s Grade 1 pennant side.  Women’s Captain, Cathy Johnson, was in attendance to present the trophy to Yap – a trophy which Cathy and past Women’s Captain, Heather Waddy, donated to the Club in 2014 in honour of their late fathers, Brian Rundle and John Waddy, both long standing members of the Club.

Glenelg's Ben Layton - 2015 Eric Scovell Trophy winner16-year left handed sensation, Ben Layton, continued his outstanding form this year, taking out the Eric Scovell Trophy.  Layton was recently awarded the Bob McLuckie Trophy as junior pennant player of the year in 2015, and his obvious good form continued on Sunday firing rounds of 77, 78, 155, to take the junior vardon event over Royal Adelaide’s Billy Cawthorne by one shot.  In 3rd place was The Grange’s Liam Georgiadis following by Kooyonga’s Joe Hodgson.
