Women’s Grade 1 team go down valiantly in final

Our Women’s A1 team battled valiantly in their final on Sunday but sadly were unable to overcome a strong, young Grange side.

Sarah Crocker, at number 5, was our shining light. She was square after three, 1 up after six, 2 up after nine and 3 up after 12. She held off a strong challenge to take out her match 2/1 – Sarah remains undefeated over four Pennant seasons. OUTSTANDING!

Josie Hodge, at number 4, started well and was square after three holes. Unfortunately she lost three holes in a row at 4, 5 and 6 making a comeback very difficult. She fought on bravely but succumbed on the 15th, 5/3.

Jill Hodge, at number 3, was steady early and square after three but struggled with her flat stick and was 4 down after nine. Her match was all over after 14 – 6/4

Sophie James, at number 2, had a very tight match that was up and down all day. After 3 and 6 she was 1 down. By 9 she was square and then went on a hot run to be 3 up after 12. Her opponent then went on a run. They were all square playing 16 when the Final was declared won – a squared match was awarded, allowing Sophie to maintain an unbeaten record in 2015 – WONDERFUL

Elysia Yap, at number 1 was undefeated in the minor round but always going to have a challenge on her hands against very talented opposition. She was 2 down after three but recovered to be square after six. Unfortunately she was unable to maintain that momentum and was 2 down after nine, 3 down after 12. Her match as over after 15 – 4/3

I’m very proud of the effort and sense of team displayed by our A1 team this year. They supported each other enthusiastically and represented Glenelg Golf Club with distinction. We look forward to going one better next year!
