Strong start for Women’s Grade 1 team

Glenelg’s A1 Women opened their Pennant season on a high defeating Blackwood 5 – 0 at The Grange Golf Club, a fantastic start to our Championship defence.

Josie Hodge at number 5 jumped out early to be 3 up after three and 4 up after nine. Her opponent steadied but Josie continued to play well and finished her match on the 14th with a comprehensive 5/4 win.

Jill Hodge, at number 4 made steady progress to be 1 up after three, 2 up after six and 3 up after nine. A couple of timely birdies along the way ensured a great 4/3 win.

Sophie James, at number 3 started slowly and was square after three holes. She then followed this up with a birdie on four, a 230 metre drive on five and a birdie on six to be 3 up. She turned at 4 up and closed out her match on the 14th, 5/4 – a wonderful result.

Elysia Yap, at number 2 was square after three then had a hot streak in the middle of her round to win three of four holes to be 4 up after nine. She was able to maintained her lead and won 4/3. A great opening match.

Jenny Lee, at number 1 was spooked by a wedge snapping in her backswing on the first hole and struggled to get going. She was never worse than square or better than 1 up all day until she won the 17th hole and the match 2/1. A well fought win.
