Solid half to start Junior pennant season

Glenelg's Jack Tanner was our player of the day with a comfortable win playing from the number one spot

The Junior Sharp Cup kicked off this weekend with Glenelg halving their match against a Combined Country team played at Kooyonga.

With the late withdrawal of Flagstaff Hill and Mt Osmond from the Sharp Cup competition, Golf SA were able to put together a Combined Country team to ensure the competition remained viable.  On paper, Glenelg looked the stronger team and after nine holes, were up in four of the five matches.  Unfortunately, the momentum changed on the back nine and the Country Team rallied to square the match on the final hole of the day.  It was a great contest to watch.

Jack Tanner, despite losing the toss, was our player of the day with a comfortable win playing from the number one spot.  Newcomer to Glenelg, Marcus Kuys, couldn’t find the fairway all day and was well beaten by his good friend, Josh Gumm, from the country and who has also recently joined The Bay.

Aaron Buchanan played a great front nine to be 3 up at the turn but couldn’t stop his opponent running him over on the back nine.  Jack Buchanan had a comfortable win against a long but wayward hitter showing that straight and steady will win you match play every time.  And Mitch Ward played the match of the day holding on to a slender lead all day before a wayward tee shot enabled his opponent to square the match and the contest on the 18th.

A great start to the season by the Glenelg juniors who are keen to make the finals this year.
