As part of our commitment to continually improving the golf course, the Club is working with our Course Architects, Crafter + Mogford Golf Strategies on a Course Enhancement Plan. This involves reviewing the golf course and identifying aspects that were not addressed through the course redevelopment project, or are subsequent to the redevelopment works, and taking into account the resources and inputs we are likely to be able sustain into the foreseeable future.
One of the major components of the Course Enhancement Plan is a bunker rationalisation program, which will preserve the design integrity of the golf course, but allow certain bunkers to be reduced in size or altered so that, for example, one bunker performs the role of two. Examples of this type of work have been the recent projects on the 10th fairway and the 14th green. This work also allows necessary refurbishment of revetted faces and entry/exit points to be undertaken as per normal course maintenance programming.
The main benefits of the bunker rationalisation plan will be:
- reduced sand area for raking/preparation and weed control;
- less revetted area for edging; and
- the opportunity for reduced wind erosion and displacement of sand.
The next stage of this program will commence on Monday, 7th May, with selected bunkers on the 3rd (see image) and 4th holes to be remodelled.
Subsequent work is programmed for the weeks commencing 21st May (6th, 7th and 9th holes) and 2nd July (11th and 17th holes).
Every effort will be made to minimise course disruption as this important work is undertaken.
