Women’s Grade 1 commence title defence this week

With the Women’s Grade 1 season commencing this week, teams for all three women’s pennant grades have been announced.

Glenelg’s Grade 1 side will commence their title defense on Sunday at Blackwood Golf Club, looking for a rare three-peat after taking out the pennant titles in 2012 and 2013. 

The team takes on a much younger feel in 2014, with two members coming through to make their Grade 1 debuts.  Coming into the team this year will be Sarah Griffiths, who has represented the Club during the last two Women’s Grade 2 seasons, and 16 year old Matilda Wheare, who has represented the Club in previous pennant and McMillan Shield competitions, as well as representing the State in various events over the last couple of years.  Both Sarah and Matilda will add a new dynamic to an already experienced side with Jill Hodge, Elysia Yap and Jenny Lee returning following their outstanding performances in the past two winning teams.  Missing from last year’s side will be Sophie James, Josie Hodge and Amy Zhou.

Whilst the Glenelg side will go into the season as one of the hot favorites, a number of other clubs will be desperate to break the dominance Glenelg has had over the Grade 1 pennant competition in recent years.  The team tee off from the 1st tee at Blackwood Golf Club on Sunday at 8:50am against the home side, and members are encouraged to come out to support them.
