It is with sadness we advise Members of the passing of Pauline Sanderson aged 95.
Pauline was a long-standing and well-respected Member of Glenelg Golf Club for over 76 years. Pauline was the second longest serving current Member of our Club, in addition to being a 72 year Member at Kooyonga Golf Club.
Pauline had a significant impact on our Club and in particular on Women’s golf in South Australia. In 2016 the Women’s A1 Pennant Competition was named the “Sanderson Cup” in Paulines honour, this followed her induction into the SA Golf Hall of Fame in 2012.
Some of Paulines career highlights include:
- Runner Up in the State Amateur Championship on 2 occasions
- 4-time State Foursomes Champion, 4 time State [Mixed] Foursomes Champion.
- Pauline was a State Team Member for 17 years, and then took on the role of State Non-Playing Captain for 12 years, totalling 29 years commitment to Women’s State Golf.
Paulines commitment to SA golf continued well beyond her on course achievements, with roles as State Selector for 36 years, Chair of Selectors for 10 years, a Council Representative for 16 years, Junior and Senior Vice President and President of Women’s Golf SA for 2 years from 1990 – 1992.
At an Australian level, Pauline was appointed as Australian Team Captain for various international series from 1985-1996.
- An Australian Sports Award – for outstanding performance in 1983 – as Captain of the wining Australian Team in Canada.
- Life Membership at Kooyonga in 1992.
- Life Membership of Women’s Golf SA in 1995
- Australian Sport Medal in the year 2000
