The final round of McMillan Shield was played at Grange East on Sunday. It was fantastic to see the course preparations for the upcoming LIV Golf Event. Both the facilities and course were absolutely stunning.
We played Kooyonga this week and despite some great golf we lost in a close fight 3&1/2 to 1&1/2.
Brandon Van Den Berg played at number one against Henry Keating. He was down early but managed to fight to a close loss of 3&1. Mitch Munn at two continued his recent outstanding form securing a 3&2 victory over Emily Keating.
Riley Trimmer played at number 3 against Scarlet Parker. The match was tight all day with Riley holding on for a half. Charlie at number four battled Abe Winskill. He was down from very early but continued to fight and managed to hold Abe to a 4&3 win.
At number five we had Gareth Thiem playing Ava Giles. Gareth played very well all day only losing 2 down to a very strong opponent. Campbell Hossack was our reserve.
Royal Adelaide secured the McMillan Shield title this year – their first win in the 50 years of the competition. Our boys fought hard all season but faced a number of teams with very high handicaps. They learnt a lot about playing golf and they gained valuable match play experience. They learnt about etiquette and good sportsmanship and all managed to make a great new group of friends a long the way that they will continue to play golf with for many years.
As the season has come to the end I wanted to give you a little insight into all the players that represented our club this year.
Indie Danger – a very passionate and helpful young player with a very wicked sense of humor and always ready to lend a hand when asked.
Brandon Van Den Berg – A player of very few words. He always puts in 110% and hits a lovely ball. He faced some tough matches this year but fought until the end.
Jayneil Rudrappagari – One of the most dedicated players in the team. He is always out practicing and trying to improve. He is a very passionate golfer and definitely one to watch out for in the future.
Campbell Hossack – Cam has been honorary captain this year. As the oldest member of the team I have called on him to be a role model for the younger kids. He is a sponge for information on how to improve his game as well being a polite and supportive team member.
Mitch Munn – What an up and comer! At the beginning of the season he was incredibly shy and quiet but I have watched him grow both with his golf and as part of the team. He has grown in confidence and ability and will definitely be a name we see in the future.
Riley Trimmer – Having only picked up a club for the first time 10 months ago. Riley is coming along in leaps and bounds. He is passionate and keen to improve and is always supportive of his team mates.
Jayden McGrath – Very new to golf, Jayden has been so keen to listen and learn from the experience. Always polite and respectful I look forward to seeing his game progress.
Charlie Leonard – Both cheeky and funny, 9 year old Charlie has kept us entertained all season. He has learnt a lot about golf and competition and has a very bright future in front of him.
Gareth Thiem – Another 9 year old – Gareth started out as very shy and unsure but always smiling. By season end he has grown in confidence, made new friends and experienced so much for his age.
All of these boys have represented Glenelg with dignity, sportsmanship and honor. They have all given 110% effort and learnt some great golf and life lessons along the way. It has been a privilege to manage the team and get to know the future stars of our club.
The club should be very proud of all of them.
