Vale: Ian Symons

It is with sadness that we advise Members of the passing of Ian Symons, aged 76.

Ian was a long-standing and devoted member of Glenelg Golf Club, serving on the Committee of Management for 10 years, including as Captain in 1998–1999 and Vice-President in 2015-2018. He was one of the driving forces behind the 1998-2004 course redevelopment project which garnered rave reviews from the golf community and resulted in significant jumps in Glenelg’s course rankings over that period and beyond – something he was very proud of.

Ian was heavily involved in pennant golf, managing Simpson Cup teams and chairing pennant selection committees, and would always be available to volunteer as a referee or starter at golf events. He loved the Club and was a great supporter and mentor to many of Glenelg’s up and coming junior members. Ian’s presence around the club will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched in some way, big or small.

On behalf of the Committee, Management, Staff and Members, our condolences go to Cathy and the Symons family, as well as the Whitford family and the rest of Ian’s relatives and friends at this sad time.

May he rest in peace.
