The annual Airport Challenge was played on Wednesday, 2nd March with our turn to host against our northern rivals, Kooyonga.
With perfect weather and immaculate course conditions, Glenelg, led by fearless Captain Greg Rundle assembled a team worthy of defeating Kooyonga 3 ½ to 2 ½
Captain Greg Rundle and partner Greg Winston got the team off to a winning start defeating Kooyong Captain (Crawford Giles). Paul Grosvenor and Greg Charlton backed up as only winners last year with another solid win. Paul Gander and Ben Winton survived for an important half to level the scores with Kooyonga at 2 ½ each. With scores locked and everyone eagerly awaiting the final match, past Captain’s Gavan Fox and Tony Martin held their never to win and hand Glenelg the victory. Congratulations to the entire team.
This marks the first win since 2012 and ends a 10-year drought, with the challenge set to return to Kooyonga in 2023.
Thanks to Greg, Glenelg and Kooyonga players and everyone involved on the day.
