Glenelg players fly flag at vardon events

The 2013 Golf SA Vardon season is well underway, with Glenelg’s elite players performing strongly.

Lachlan Booth followed his win at the Tea Tree Gully Junior Vardon with a second place finish in The Vines Junior Vardon, with solid scores of 74, 73. Lachlan’s future certainly looks bright.

It is Glenelg’s junior ranks that continue to impress, boosted by new member Josh Hayes. Also a member at Fleurieu golf club, it was no surprise to see Josh take out the Junior Vardon event around the Fleurieu course a few weeks back. Followed up by a win at the Flagstaff Hill Junior Vardon last Sunday, with impressive scores of 74, 74, Josh may need a bigger mantle piece. We look forward to Josh’s contribution come pennant season.

Another of Glenelg’s junior members, Sam Raschella, has been working hard on his game recently, with solid finishes the Fleurieu and Mt Lofty Vardons validating his efforts.

Two of Glenelg’s winning A1 Women’s Pennant Team have also been impressive lately, with Jenny Lee winning the Fleurieu Women’s Vardon, defeating fellow Glenelg member Elysia Yap. Elysia will travel to Tasmania at the end of April for the Women’s Interstate series and we wish her the best of luck. Amy Zhou, another member of our winning A1 Women’s Pennant Team has had a couple of solid results recently, finishing second at the Mt Lofty and Flagstaff Hill Women’s Vardons.

On the men’s front, our New Zealand import, Campbell Rawson has impressed over recent months, with solid result after solid result. A disappointing second round, followed an impressive 73 to open the Tea Tree Gully Vardon. Determined to follow up with two solid rounds, Rawson shot 76, 69 at The Vines Vardon for a sixth place finish against strong opposition. Momentum was building. Rounds of 70, 71 followed at the Fleurieu Vardon for a second place finish. Another top 10 finish followed at the Flagstaff Hill Vardon, capping off a solid few months of golf for Rawson. It was now fair to say Campbell can match it with the states best and he will be an asset for our Simpson Cup team in 2013.

Players have a few weeks off before the Golf SA State Amateur to be played at Flagstaff Hill, Tea Tree Gully and The Grange Golf Clubs. We wish our Glenelg players the best of luck.
