Glenelg’s Josh Hayes has played outstanding golf to finish outright 5th, and the leading South Australian, in the 2013 Tasmanian Junior Masters, played at Tasmania Golf Club last month.
Hayes finished the 72-hole tournament at 11-over with rounds of 77, 74, 72, 76, only five shots behind eventual winner, Brett Coletta of Sandhurst Club in Victoria, who took the title in a three-way playoff. Hayes was the leading player under 18 years of age.
His performance followed up a similarly impressive result in the Tamar Valley Junior Cup played at Greens Beach Golf Club a week earlier. Hayes finished in 8th position on a four-round total of 300 (77, 74, 77, 72), eleven shots behind winner Zach Murray of Wodonga Golf Club.
Hayes was joined in Tasmania by club mates, Sam Raschella and Will Starkey, who both performed well in the events. In the Tasmanian Junior Masters, Raschella finished in a tie for 17th position with rounds of 79, 80, 75, 78, 312, while Starkey was a further seven shots back tied 22nd with rounds of 77, 83, 77, 82.
Starkey finished 20th in the Tamar Valley Junior Cup after rounds of 78, 79, 81, 82 for a 72-hole total of 320. Raschella fired a four-round total of 327 (82, 78, 84, 83) to be tied 24th.

About the Glenelg Golf Club Foundation
The Club is committed to the ongoing support and encouragement of Junior Golf and as a result, the Glenelg Golf Club Foundation provided funding assistance to Josh, Will and Sam to compete in these two events in Tasmania.
Through the Glenelg Golf Club Foundation, we have identified Junior Golf as one of our key areas of importance. As a result, the Club has focused on funding the ongoing development, training and promotion of Junior golf with proceeds raised through the Foundation.
This results in an outstanding, fully funded Junior Development Program at Glenelg Golf Club.
