Emma Sutton and Ben Layton have claimed their first Club Junior Championship titles last Sunday, 11th October 2015.
Sutton, who recently joined Glenelg following a move from The Grange Golf Club, took out the Girls’ Club Junior Championship with rounds of 83, 40, 123. Along the way, Sutton also claimed the Ella Cole Trophy for the best net score, and finished 2nd in the Anne Smerdon Junior Girls’ Invitational which was played in conjunction with the junior championships. Hyoyi Pyun finished second in the Girls’ Junior Championships.
Layton, who joined Glenelg in late 2014 from Willunga Golf Club (along with good mate and 2015 SA Amateur Champion, Lachy Barker), won his first Boys’ Club Junior Championship title, defeating Jackson Kalz in the final on Sunday, 2/1. Layton played solid golf to overcome an early deficit against Kalz, coming home strongly over the closing holes to clinch the trophy on the 17th hole. Earlier in the day, Layton had defeated Liam Kennewell after chipping in on the 18th for birdie in the semi-final, whilst Kalz had defeated Frank Vucic 2/1.
In the Boys’ Handicap Matchplay Championship, Jack Tanner defeated Harry Burner in the 18-hole final 2/1 after overcoming Jack Buchanan in the semi-final that morning, with Burner defeating Jacob Rillotta to secure his finals berth.
