Glenelg’s Josh Hayes and Jenny Lee are within contention following the first round of the Golf SA Junior Amateur Championships held at Kooyonga Golf Club today.
In extreme heat, Hayes shot a 1-under par 71 to be three shots behind leader, Anthony Murdaca, who fired an impressive 68 around the difficult Kooyonga layout. The scheduled second round was cancelled today due to the heat. Lachlan Booth is a further 4 shots back after a solid 75 to be in 9th position.
In the girl’s event, Lee, who is aiming for her third consecutive title, is only one shot back from the leader after a fine 76 in tough conditions. She sits behind Rebecca Kay, from Coolangatta Golf Club in Queensland, who shot a 1-over par 75.
The second round is scheduled to be played at The Grange’s West Course tomorrow, followed by the final round at Glenelg on Wednesday.
