Pike Cup team suffer narrow defeat

Report by Sue Tuohy (Team Manager)

Another loss to Glenelg 3/2 to Flagstaff Hill at Mt Osmond GC, but it could have gone the other way.

Matilda Wheare (playing no. 1) was 7 up after eleven holes, but after a bit of a brain fade on the 12th she eventually won 6/5.

Bec Hughes (playing no. 5) won 5/3. Her highlight of the round was a birdie at the 7th after driving the green with her tee shot (par 4).  Well done Bec.

Wendy Greig (playing no. 3) was having a very close match with her opponent being 1 down after 10 holes, but her opponent had mastered the greens, with Wendy losing 4/3.

Sue Raggatt (playing no. 4) was 2 down after 10 holes, then 1 down after 17 holes. On the eighteenth hole her opponent sunk a 25 metre putt to square the hole and for Sue to go 1 down.

That left Louise Pike (Playing No. 2) who had played a very steady game with not much in the match being either square, 1 up, or 1 down. Hitting off the eighteenth hole Louise was 1 down, and both girls were on the green in three (par 5). Louise putted first to within a gimme putt, while her opponent putted 2 meters past the hole only to make the putt. They halved the hole and Flagstaff Hill won the match.

That’s match play golf!
