Glenelg’s Brodie Whitbread and Charley Jacobs have taken out the boys & girls Junior Sand Greens Championships.
The Championship was played on 28 & 29 May over 36 holes at the Tumby Bay Golf Club which is situated on the eastern coast of Eyre Peninsula.
Brodie, playing off a handicap of 0.4, claimed the boys championship in a three-way playoff after posting rounds of 75,75 (150).
Co-leaders with Whitbread after the Championship proper were Will Stratford 78,72 (Tumby Bay) and Marcus Kuys 76,74 (Pt Augusta).
The Championship was decided on the third playoff hole with Whitbread winning the hole to claim the championship.
Stratford with a playing handicap of 12, claimed the nett event with nett scores of 66,60 (126). Liam Zeller, handicap 10 from Stansbury GC was runner up.
In the Girls Championship, Charley Jacobs claimed the title for a third straight year after rounds of 76 & 87 for a 36 hole total of 163 (17-over).
Only 6 weeks ago Jacobs injured her wrist during the Junior Interstate Series, so she would be pleased to be back in the winners circle. Jacobs first round 76 was a new course record.
Jacobs finished 11 strokes ahead of The Vines of Reynella’s Caitlin Peirce 90, 84 (174). Peirce’s score is an 8 stroke improvement on last year when she was also runner up to Jacobs.
Jessica Smith from Stirling North Golf Club playing off a handicap of 27 won the girls net aggregate event with a score of 68,73 (141). Nett runner up was Shakira-ann Kuys from Pt Augusta (153).
The Teams event was won by Northern District, represented by players, Marcus Kuys (Pt Augusta), Jack Flavel (Gladstone), Shakira-ann Kuys (Pt Augusta) and Max Tardieu (Stirling North)
Golf SA would like to acknowledge the Tumby Bay Golf Club for hosting the championship, in particular, Club President Daryl Stratford and District President Brenda Heath for their efforts organising and coordinating the event with Golf SA which included 31 championship players and their families.
