2016 Captain’s Letter

We are now in full swing for 2016 and, on behalf of the Committee of Management and Club Staff, I trust you had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and were able to enjoy the Club over the break.

2015 was another successful year for Glenelg Golf Club with our course ranking, as rated by Golf Australia Magazine, rising to 25th in Australia, even with two new courses entering the charts. This is a testament to our great course and also to the way we receive and welcome visitors; something that, as members, you should be proud of.

Speaking of our magnificent golf course, I would like to take a brief moment to remind members that caring for the course is critical in assisting our course staff to maintain and present it in the world class condition they do……so:

  • Be sensitive to where you take carts and buggies. Yes, this might mean you have to walk a few paces to get to your ball. Small green and white stakes on the course indicate “No Go” zones.
  • Repair all pitch marks and divots.
  • Those artificial looking things in bunkers are rakes – please use them to leave the bunker in better shape than when you entered it and leave the rake on flat sand facing the direction of play.

Remember, the above points are not optional but obligations to both the golf course and your fellow golfers.

On a financial basis, the Club had a good year. We undertook some significant projects of a capital nature such as the Western Car Park redevelopment, continued to reduce our debt level and reported an operating surplus. This is all good news and thanks go to members and guests for your patience during the periods of disruption when some of these works were being undertaken.

Membership remains one of our significant focuses and we continued to attract new members to the Club in 2015. We encourage you all to be ambassadors for Glenelg and keep introducing potential members to the Club. We have a great range of membership options available and, if you are not familiar with the current types of membership, please take a moment to look on the website or drop by the Club’s Administration Office.

As members, you know that Glenelg Golf Club is about more than just golf; we are a vibrant, busy venue which members, guests and visitors use as a destination for socialising, dining, functions, corporate events and weddings – all of which assist significantly in sustaining the Club’s financial viability. I thank you for your support of our Club off the golf course and encourage you to continue to enjoy our magnificent facility. Additionally, it would be great if you let others know about our extensive range of capabilities.

Distribution of Membership Renewal Packs

The Club has again taken the initiative to distribute membership renewal invoices early this year and we invite you to attend the 88th Annual General Meeting of the Club to be held on Wednesday, 30th March 2016 at 8:00pm.

If you would prefer to receive your membership pack in the mail, please advise the Administration Office so that we can arrange this for you.

The 2015 Annual Report and 2016/2017 Members’ Handbook will be available in early March – we will advise members when a link to both documents becomes available on the Club’s website and once they have arrived for collection from the Administration Office.

2016/2017 Membership Subscriptions, Fees & Levies

Balancing member value, service, affordability, debt reduction and capital expenditure requirements has always been a major focus. The Committee of Management understands that, while we work toward our goal of being the best all round golf club package in South Australia, we must remain affordable. In 2016/2017 the following is applicable:

  • Your membership subscription has increased 5%, with no change to the Infrastructure Levy.
  • The Catering Levy has increased to $400 (or $7.70/week) and is a credit available over a period of 12 months, with an additional three months to those renewing their membership each year.
  • Due to growing demand for bag, buggy and gopher storage, a 20% increase has been applied to all storage fees with funding to be set aside to investigate options to create additional storage space for members.

Membership Options Available

We are constantly reviewing the membership options available to assist you in choosing a membership that best suits your needs. In 2016/2017, these options include Weekday, Six Day and Absentee membership. Further information can be obtained from the Club’s website or by contacting the Administration Office.

Any changes to membership categories for the 2016/2017 year must be lodged in writing with the Administration Office or via email at membership@glenelggolf.com by 31st March 2016. Late fees will apply to any membership transfers requested after 1st April 2016.
