As most of you know, Head Teaching Professional, Gareth Jones, recently began coaching the Japan national team. Along with holding the role of national coach with Golf Australia, this new role has seen Gareth very busy overseas with Team Japan taking in Japan, USA and Abu Dhabi in a 3 week stretch recently. He finished up in Abu Dhabi with a bout of pneumonia that saw him absent from Glenelg for a large portion of Spring. He’s back to full strength now so you will see him back on the teaching tee this summer.
He has just arrived back from a quick trip to Japan for a Team Japan Reception where the Jones family were also able to attend. His children, Max and Lucy, were very excited to try out their Year 1 and 2 Japanese skills on the locals.
Team Japan will be coming to Glenelg in the New Year to train and start their new programs for 2016. They will arrive after competing at the Australian Amateur Championship and will work with Gareth, Ryan Lumsden and physio Greg Rosenbauer. If you see them around, please say G’day – they’re working on their English and this is a really important area for their own personal development. We are excited that we can provide an international training base for the team and hope the members can enjoy seeing these young athletes at Glenelg.
