Recently nine of Glenelg Golf Clubs Junior Foundation Members were lucky enough to travel to Sydney to attend the Australian Open, play golf and have fun! The trip left early on the Wednesday morning before, after checking into the hotel the juniors visited a local supermarket to shop as a group requiring planning and team work to ensure that everyone had breakfast, snacks, drinks and treats for the duration of the trip. The group then made their way to Glenelg Golf Clubs reciprocal club Bonnie Doon for a round of golf. Unfortunately lightning and torrential rain resulted in the round being abandoned after 4 holes.

Thursday saw another early start with the group making their way to The Lakes Golf Club to watch the Australian Open with the marquee groups all playing in the morning. The afternoon saw a trip down the road to The Australian to watch more golf. Across the day it was great to see Mens, Womens and All Abilities players playing exceptional golf in the same field. On Thursday night the group made their way to Manhattan Superbowl for a game of 10 pin bowling, pizzas and arcade games. Great fun had by all and lots of prizes redeemed at the kiosk!
Friday held another early start and a round of golf at Glenelg Golf Clubs reciprocal club St Michaels. St Michaels was in exceptional condition and offered some very challenging golf holes with exceptional views of the coast. The group then made their way to The Australian to watch more golf and gain autographs from much loved players like Min Woo Lee. It wouldn’t be a golf trip without a few challenges along the way, like one of the vans breaking down and the group having to leave coach Braden Kelly to get it repaired while the rest of us had dinner!

On Saturday it was time for the group to pack up and fly home, with a number of flight delays there were more chances for fun to pass the time, with a large game of cards being played on the floor at the boarding gate!
The absolute highlight of the trip was the way that the juniors represented the club. Their manners, behaviour and their interactions with people were always conducted with respect and something that the club should be very proud of.
A big thankyou to all the people who have supported the Junior Foundation over the year. Without your help trips like these would not be possible.
