2023 Rhonda Watson Brooch

The 43rd Rhonda Watson Brooch was contested in superb conditions on September the 11th. 87 players representing 17 clubs contested the Silver ( handicap to GA 15.0) and Bronze Brooch (15.1 to 25.9).

The event honours the stellar contribution that Rhonda Watson OAM made to Glenelg Golf Club, State and National Golf during her lifetime. Rhonda was the first inductee into the Golf Industry Hall of Fame, Club Champion 13 times, State Amateur winner 12 times – an Australian record, first South Australian women to register a scratch handicap, National team member and non playing Captain and tireless golf administrator and committee member to name but a few .
The event is played in teams of 3;  Stroke aggregate for Silver both gross and nett and the  Bronze Brooch decided by Stableford aggregate. Sue Tuohy spoke briefly about her mother and reflected on her devotion to Glenelg Golf Club saying “she had one eye yellow and one black.” Rhonda would have been delighted with the result!

Glenelg was victorious in both the Silver Gross and Bronze divisions. The team of Sarah Cocker, Chris Trimmer and Jo Rawson recorded a gross score of 244 defeating The Grange 265. Sarah Crocker recorded a sub par round  of 73! The team of Cathy Molloy, Julie Gobbie and Sally Sechser took out the Bronze division over Royal Adelaide GC with a score of 104. Cathy Molloy had an outstanding round securing 38 Stableford points. The Silver nett prize was won by Blackwood 226  with North Adelaide runners up with 238 on count back over Mt Osmond.
