Glenelg Seniors win 2023 Interclub Final

CONGRATULATIONS to Glenelg Golf Club on winning the Final against Kooyonga 3 and half to 2 and a half, played at Royal Adelaide.

This competition, played just between Kooyonga, Grange, Royal Adelaide and Glenelg for Senior players over 55, has been played since 2004, with Glenelg having won it only once before back in 2012 under the guidance of Graham Stone – so, it is nice to get the Glenelg name back on the trophy – well done guys.

The win was set up by Trent Kotz (6&4) and James Mattsson (6&5) who both had convincing wins over a couple of very tough opponents, playing at No’s 4 and 3 respectively. Another strong win by Villi Koronis (4&3) at No.1 sealed the win for Glenelg. Both John Keogh and Wayne Humphries were competitive both losing their matches 2&1. With Glenelg holding a commanding lead at this stage on individual holes won, the result could only be a Glenelg win, so Anthony Doyle’s game was declared a half with that match being all square playing the 15th, giving Glenelg the 3 and a half to 2 and a half victory.

A special mention to James Mattsson for winning 6 of his 7 matches against quality opponents and to Deane Harris winning 4 of 6 matches at No.1.

Thanks to the entire squad for their commitment to participating in the Interclub – with players away, some still tied up with work commitments and the odd injury here and there, it was quite a challenge to get a full team on the park some weeks. It was terrific to get some youth in to the team with Brenton Lane and Trent Kotz making themselves available and making valuable contributions.

We now look forward to competing in the Div 1 of the Golf Australia Senior Pennants that commence on Monday October 9th.
