Paul Williams and Trevor Gould become the first R&A Level 2 referees to complete the new online examination

Congratulations to Paul Williams and Trevor Gould who have recently completed the R&A’s Level 2 referee accreditation requirements.

Earlier this year the Club developed an internal program designed to provide training in the Rules and referee practice over a period of several weeks. This was the first time such a program has been offered.

In recent weeks the R&A launched an online program to enable interested people to undertake Rules education and assessment at their own convenience: formerly there was a requirement to attend a Golf Australia training seminar and complete a group, written examination.

Paul and Trevor were the first candidates in the world to successfully complete the new online examination. We have since been invited to provide feedback to the R&A on our experience of the learning materials and assessment instrument.

Paul and Trevor join the other Members of the Club’s Rules Group – Geoff Attenborough, Peter Norman, David Trembath and Chris Whitford – who are always available to assist anyone who wishes to obtain Rules information or to discuss a Rules issue.

We expect that this training program will be offered again next year and would encourage any Member who has a potential interest in participating to speak with Paul or Trevor about the requirements, and their experience, of the exercise.

Anyone wishing to complete the R&A online Level 2 examination by self-study can contact the Club, or General Manager Robert Vincekovic, for further information.

Special Thanks to Peter Norman

The Club would like to acknowledge Peter Norman for his continued support of the Club’s Rules Group. In particular, we wish to thank him for working together with Golf Australia and the R&A in a world first to trial the new online rules examination program. Finally special thanks to Peter for his hard work and dedication in training Paul and Trevor in preparation for the exam, and assisting with any other potential candidates wanting to explore rules accreditation.
