A warm sunny morning at the Vines set the A3 pennant team up for their second win of the season. Our opponents this week were North Adelaide who we defeated three matches to two. Great performances by our top three players secured the win and our other two players only narrowly lost their matches with a very strong showing by all.

With several of our squad still away and unavailable, we were fortunate to have Eliza Baker play at number one for the team.  She had just returned from college in the US and despite the lingering effects of jetlag was able to record a strong 5/4 win.

Tonia Ross played at number two and for the second week in a row dominated with some excellent golf and her opponent never got a look in. Tonia took out the match on the 12th hole with a blistering 8/6 win.

Fiona Eblen at number three got off to a shaky start being down after the first few holes but settled down with some exceptional golf to turn it around and secure a 4/3 win.

Imelda Lynch fought out another close battle this week at number four. The match was evenly poised for the first few holes but Imelda found herself down for most of the middle to late holes. After the 15th, she was three down and fought back to win the next two holes to take it down the 18th. Unfortunately, the 18th was squared resulting in a one down loss. A great effort!

At number 5, Wendy Vaughan got off to a good start and was two up for most of the front nine. Her opponent was able to fight back with some great chipping to square the match after 10 holes. The match was even from there and Wendy unfortunately lost the 17th hole to find herself one down fighting for a win on the 18th to square the match.  Great play to the green almost had Wendy win the hole until her opponent had another great chip in to a foot from the hole. Another close loss but a great effort to again take it down to the 18th!

A big thank you to the caddies – Cathy Johnson, Sally Sechser, Louise Pike, Jill Gehling and Oscar Vaughan for your time and support this week.

Glenelg are currently sitting third on the ladder and next week we face a strong West Lakes team at North Adelaide.

Women’s Cleek 2

Monday 15th May

Glenelg played Westward Ho at Tea Tree Gully in the most perfect playing conditions. However, it proved to be the most difficult day for the team.

Four members of our team had to give several strokes to their opponent and unfortunately, trailed in their match from the outset. Despite their best efforts, as the day progressed, Westward Ho played steadily and were able to sneak further ahead to claim 4 wins.

Our highlight of the day was the match between Des Cary and Leila Auld. Des gave 6 strokes to her opponent but still managed to stay with her throughout the match. Things did become a little tense when Leila squared the match on the 16th but Des played solidly over the last 2 holes and won her match 2up. Well done Des.

Thankyou everyone for your efforts today. Let us hope for a little more success next match.
