Women’s National Invitational

On March 7th – 9th  2022 Anne Hooper, Sue Crawford, Deb Bennett and Jill McDonald represented Glenelg Golf Club in the Women’s National Invitational hosted by The National Golf Club at Cape Schanck, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. The event dates coincided with International Women’s Day.

Each day we played a different course and format. On Monday we played the  Gunnamatta Course – individual stableford; Tuesday – Old Course – team stableford event and Wednesday – Moonah – 4 BBB.

Weather forecasts each day predicted fine weather and 35-50 kph winds and Mother Nature certainly delivered! However, the beautiful courses and spectacular views were well worth the challenge. We were amused when a National member described the winds as “curious” and went on to explain the wind direction was easterly rather than the usual southerly for which the courses are designed. Strong gusts played havoc with fairway shots and balls didn’t want to stay on greens. Despite the conditions Anne showed good form in the Individual Cape Schanck trophy event on Monday with a third place and a score of 36 points.

The organisation, catering and hospitality by The National Golf Club and the assistance from many volunteer members in the club house and on the course made this an enjoyable and memorable event.
