Get to Know… Greg

Meet Greg Rundle, our new Club Captain. Say hello when you see him out on course or in the Clubhouse!

Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a 47-year-old Chartered Accountant who grew up playing golf at TTG Golf Club from the age of 12. Born and raised in Adelaide, I spent a year coaching cricket in England as a 21-year-old before returning to SA to find a “proper” job. I met my wife Tanya upon my return, and we have 4 children.

What do you do for a living?
I am the majority owner of an accounting and financial advice business called 360Private based on Greenhill Rd. After finishing my accounting studies, I became a certified financial planner because accounting was too boring!!

Has the business had to adapt as a result of Covid-19?
We had all of our staff working from home in May before commencement of normal work hours from the start of June. Our business lends itself to WFH easily and I expect there will be more flexibility for staff around this going forward.

How long have you been a Member of Glenelg Golf Club?
I became a Member in 2004 after David Millington and John Burkett nominated me while I was an auditor on their business in the late 90’s.

What is your favourite thing about being a Member at Glenelg?
The GGC is a wonderful place to spend time, with Members and staff being so friendly and obliging. The relationships I have built, and hopefully will continue to build, are as rewarding and exciting as the quality of course that I get to play every week.

What is your current role at Glenelg?
I have recently taken over as Captain from Bevan Roberts. The challenges ahead for golf clubs are obvious but I am excited about the opportunity to help Glenelg continue to be a leader in “Golf Experiences” going forward.

What’s your favourite hole on the course?
I love the 12th hole because I par it every now and again.

What is your handicap?
Currently my GA is 4. I played to it back in 2014 but it doesn’t seem to move. I think my Saturday playing group put cards in for me during the week.

Explain your best ever round of golf?
Although I have never shot under the card I did have 29 out the back on the old Glenelg Course but my best ever round was at the Angeles National Golf Club, LA where I nearly holed out with 7 iron. Coincidentally it was also a good friend’s bucks show!

What is your favourite food item and drink on the menu?
Coopers have released a beer called Pale Ale. I like it and it likes me. I used to love the Adam Scott pizza, the similarity in how our lives have turned out is nothing short of spooky..

Three things you may not know about me.

  1. I was part of the original shareholders group that started up Samuels Gorge winery at Mclaren Vale.
  2. I don’t like heights at all…. when forced to go on roller coasters I close my eyes and take myself to a happy place.
  3. My Saturday preference is a 10th tee start…the pressure off the first is still real….and may be getting worse!
