COVID-19 Latest Course & Booking Rules [7 May]

Updated 7 May 2020

This page will be kept up-to date with the latest information about golf bookings, practice facility access and course rules while the Club complies with restrictions during the COVID-19 outbreak.

We would like to thank all Members for your understanding through the rapidly changing rules and Club operations. You have all been extremely co-operative and accommodating given the unprecedented situation. Please continue to enjoy your golf and most importantly stay safe.

GOLF COURSE & BOOKINGS

As of Saturday 25th April we will be playing as a 3-ball. Whilst this change is a positive step to normality, there will be very strict restrictions to obey. It is imperative at this point in time that we follow State Government rules in order to continue playing golf through this period. Please take note of the following:

  • No gatherings in groups greater than 10 or more in any area. In particular, the area between the first tee, practice green and Pro Shop has been congested at times.
  • Please do not arrive too early for your tee time.
  • Please take note of your pace of play. Do not drop behind the group in front of you and play through par 3 holes swiftly to eliminate banking up of groups at the Tee .
  • The move to groups of 3 is a positive step forward however it is vital the members continue to observe the social distancing rules and refrain from congregating in groups. This is particularly important outside the pro shop, on the putting greens, adjacent the 1st tee and in the car parks.

  • Continue to follow all other touchless routines that have been adopted over the past four weeks.

  • Liquor licencing restrictions mean that alcohol cannot be consumed on the premises, including the course and car park. Please keep in mind if the Club is caught not adhering to the social distancing or alcohol regulations, the Club faces a fine of $5,000 plus loss of liquor licence.
  • The course is currently Members only. No guests or visitors (including reciprocals) allowed on course.
  • Bunker rakes will be removed and preferred lies in bunkers will be adopted immediately. As per the R&A temporary golf rules, we have introduced a local rule that allows a player to mark, lift and place their ball at the nearest point of relief (in the bunker), no nearer the hole, without penalty. Members are requested to smooth bunkers using their feet or a club.
  • Flag sticks are to remain in the hole at all times and not be touched for any reason.
  • Shallow cups are being tested on the practice green for easier retrieval of ball when holed.
  • Maximum of one person per golf cart to comply with social distancing. This applies to both Club and privately owned carts. A discounted rate of $20 will be offered to all Members and we ask that you respect this policy while on the course. This will obviously place a greater demand on our cart fleet so please make sure that you book in advance with the Pro Shop.

The demand for Tee Times is high under the current restrictions and providing an equal opportunity to all Members is paramount in promoting the fairest booking system possible. As a result, we have implemented the following change to assist with bookings through busy periods:

  • The maximum number of players any one member can book will be limited to four Members only. This allows a normal group of four to book two groups of two, whilst in the booking phase.
  • We encourage Members to play mid-week, if possible, to allow those that can play on Saturdays only to have the opportunity to book a Tee Time.

COMPETITION GOLF

  • Competition to resume as per normal every day from Monday 11th May.
  • Social distancing and hygiene measures to continue with no bunker rakes, no touching of flags, marking of your own card, and entering of your own card via the scanners or mobile app.
  • Prizes to be distributed as per normal.
  • There will not be any Nearest the Pins. In lieu of the NTP prizes, additional money will be allocated to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in each grade.
  • Play will continue as a 3-ball for the immediate future. Unfortunately we are unable to return to groups of 4 or implement two tee starts until the State or Federal Governments ease the gathering rule restrictions (of 10) in South Australia.

PRACTICE RANGE

  • As of Saturday 25 April, the driving range hitting bays will be increased from four to six. A reminder that the hitting bays are for warm up purposes only and a limit of 1 bucket per person still applies.
  • Our PGA Coaching Team will have priority whilst giving lessons.
  • The practice putting greens and chipping areas have been divided into sections. Each section must have no more than two Members at any one time.

CATERING CART & STARTERS HUT

From Wednesday 15th April the Catering Cart will operate every day of the week for Members to purchase drinks and packaged food. Please be mindful of the strict procedures relating to purchases:

  • Members cannot touch the staff member, cart or any items inside the cart under any circumstances. Please ask for your preferred items and the staff member will provide them to you.
  • Menu will be limited at this stage as alcoholic beverages are not allowed to be consumed on site under the current licencing restrictions.
  • The catering cart will be cashless, therefore payments can only be made via Members Card or Eftpos payment.

From Friday 1st May, the Starters Hut will be serving hot food, coffee and cold drinks.

  • Take home meals are available to order from the hut or over the phone (8350 3200) up until 4:00pm daily.
  • Meals are able to be collected from 11:00am to 5:30pm.
  • A selection of wine and beer is available, but is strictly for consumption offsite only. Any Member found to be consuming alcohol on the Glenelg Golf Club premises will face disciplinary action.
