2020 Junior Development Day Wrap Up

Developing Skills, Getting On Course and Building Friendships

The Junior Development day, supported by the Glenelg Golf Club Foundation, was once again extremely popular with 24 Junior Members participating. The day provided these juniors with access to coaching, a competition round of golf and a BBQ post golf.

The format of the day saw those playing 18 holes complete a 2-hour practice session focused on learning skills which the could help out on course. They then set out onto the course to apply what they had learnt, clearly they had all been listening as scores were incredibly good (see scores below). Special mention to Kade Bryant who had a round of 71 off the stick at the ripe old age of 11!

2020 was the second year which saw the Tiger Cubs invited to participate, a 45-minute clinic followed by an on-course session, was provided before enjoying the BBQ. This on course experience is particularly important for development as these Tiger Cubs transition to Glenelg Junior Members.

Post golf all 24 participants and their families gathered for a BBQ generously supplied by the Foundation, followed by presentations with a broad range of handicaps taking home prizes. The highlight of the day came as we saw juniors who had just met eating side by side and discussing all things golf and more. Building these friendship will play an integral part going forward in increasing participation as well as building a thriving club culture that we so highly value here at Glenelg Golf Club.

These days are not possible without the tremendous support we receive from a number of sponsors. Firstly the Glenelg Golf Club Foundation who supports the coaching and catering, Ping Golf who supply each junior with a hat as well as donating prizes, Schweppes who provide the drinks, and Titleist who provide the balls.

Many of these juniors will now start looking forward to the upcoming McMillan shield, their first taste of representative golf – we look forward to their next chapter as Glenelg Golf Club Members.
