Women’s A3 Round 7 Report

Women’s A3 Pennant Team Wins Convincingly to Reach Finals

Round 7, 24 June

Today, on a bitterly cold Monday morning, Glenelg’s very determined A3 Women’s Pennant team met Royal Adelaide at Blackwood, mindful that they needed to win to ensure a place in the finals.

Donning thermals, beanies, vests, and jackets, a big concern was actually being able to swing a golf club in so many layers of clothing.  Neverthless, the team got away to a very good start with 3 players leading from the first couple of holes.

At the turn, Sue Tuohy and Sandy Francas were 5up, Jo Ricourt 3up and both Sue Raggatt and Jo Lendrum square.  From there they only got better, SueT winning after 12 holes, Sandy after the 13th and Jo R finishing on the 14th hole.

Sue Raggatt hit her stride on the back nine, getting her short game into good order and winning her match on the 15th hole.  Jo Lendrum, who had got off to a poor start, finding it difficult to hit fairways on the tight Blackwood layout, kept fighting hard and finished strongly, winning her match with an excellent par on the 17th hole.

Today’s convincing  5-0 win, saw Glenelg overtake several teams to finish second overall, giving them a good chance of reaching the final in a couple of week’s time.

Many thanks to all caddies whose dedication and good spirits defied the cold and helped their players to a super win.

Next Monday’s Semi Final is at Mt Osmond at 8.00am vs North Adelaide.  Good Luck to all players.
