Simpson Cup Solid Win

Simpson Cup Solid Win

Round 4, 2 June

The Glenelg Simpson Cup team playing at Kooyonga Golf Club had a solid 7 matches to 0 win against The Mid North team on Sunday.

In sometimes drizzly rain and cold conditions our boys were well aware of any complacency coming into the match and duly saluted to remain undefeated after four rounds.

Starting the match from the 10th tee and playing at no7 Harry Burner had a tough battle for the first 9 holes being square at the turn. Harry then gained the ascendancy winning 4 holes in succession to eventually win his match 3/2.

Jackson Kalz playing at no6 and in his first Simpson Cup match for the season was off to a fast start being 3up after 3 holes. Jackson extended his lead to 4up after 8. After losing the 15th and 16th Jackson steadied to close out his match 2/1.

Team captain Josh Hayes playing at no5 continued his great form with a comprehensive 6/5 win. After being 3up after 8 holes Josh extended his margin to have an early finish at the 13th hole.

Jack Tanner playing at no4 had an even battle being 1up after five holes. He then put his stamp on the match being 4up at the turn. Jack showed his class and went on to record a great 7/5win.

Our great lefty Ben Layton playing at no3 is another team member continuing his great form winning his match 5/4. After being only 1up after 8 holes Ben put his foot down to win 4 of the next 6 holes to finish his match.

Sam  Earl playing at no2 showed his class after an even start gained a large advantage being 4up after 9 holes. Sam went on to complete a very strong 7/6 win.

Jack Buchanan playing at no1 had a tough battle all of his match. After winning his first hole Jack fell behind to be 2down after 8. Not to be denied Jack won 4 of the next 5 holes to be 2 up after 13. The score remained the same until the 17th which Jack won to complete a tough 3/1 win.

After 4 rounds the team is in a very position at the top of the table. However we have three tough matches to complete the minor round and we as a group will not be taking anything for granted in our quest to remain top of the table and give ourselves the chance to win a place in the final.

Thanks again to all caddies and supporters for their support of the team in some fairly ordinary weather conditions.

Team managers,
