Pike Cup Round 4 Report

Pike Cup Report

Round 4, 23 June

Playing Tea Tree Gully on their home track was never going to be easy.  Local knowledge is always invaluable and no more obvious than on that challenging track of narrow, sloping fairways, overhanging trees and slick, firm greens.   Time and time again our players would watch the well-placed tee shots and approaches of their opponents, putting additional pressure on their own game.

What looked like a comfortable win on the board 4 games to 1, at times felt a bit like the tortoise and the hare with a different ending – thank goodness!!

We welcomed back our two younger players Eliza and Taylah who lead out the team on a well-manicured course in near perfect weather conditions.

They did not disappoint us.

Taylah took a few holes to settle into a steady rhythm, went through nine 1 up and then found her swing, played solid golf on the back nine to with 3/1.

Eliza again played sound golf throughout her round with a front nine lead of 3 up to further extend this to a super 5/3 win.  It’s always a comforting boost to the team to see her sitting in the in cart smiling as they play through.

Lou started strong early in her round but had this knocked back to square at the turn.  Proving to be a late runner, she did not give up with a magnificent shot on to the 18th green from the trees to secure a 1 up win.

Bec playing at number two, found a very in-form opponent who didn’t give her a chance to peg back her early losses.    It just wasn’t her day losing 6/4.

Playing number one, Sam’s match was close, 2 up early to be pegged back to square after 14.  A winning streak –  three in a row – 15, 16 and 17 saw her close out the match for the team 3/1.

Congratulations A2s for your patient, professional approach, getting some real “clutch” putts (keep that practice up Sarah) and showing strong team spirit all the way.

The caddies were invaluable on this long, hilly course – many thanks once again to you all.

No time for a breather, Grange (just behind us on the ladder) at Kooyonga  next week is going to tough, lucky we have a full list of players for both A1 and A2.
