Course Update

This week our course staff have commenced rebuilding the first fairway bunker on the 10th hole.  Over the past few weeks members may have seen the rear face of the bunker sliding down into the base of the bunker caused by deterioration over time.

To fix the bunker, the old revetting is excavated and taken away so that a new foundation, or bench, can be formed.  It is integral that the bench follows the original contours of the land and is solidly compacted to ensure the newly laid revetted turf does not sink after construction.  Once the bench is ready, turf is then laid, or stacked on top of each other, to form the ‘wall’ of the revetting with height determined by the surrounding ground contours.

The work is on track to be completed by Monday, 6th August, until this time the bunker will be marked as GUR.

In other course news, between clean-up from the inclement weather our staff have been spraying winter weeds such as Winter Grass in our Couch and broadleaf weeds in the rough.  At this time of year the weather plays a key role in determining the condition of the course leading into spring and the timeliness of general maintenance work.

This week we have replaced all our thin 7ft flag sticks with thicker, 7ft 5in ‘Tournament’ poles which should increase the visual impact of our flags from down the fairway and give a higher level of presentation to our course.

Every day that passes is a day closer to spring, a very busy time for course maintenance.  Remember Course Renovations are approaching in September, I will have more on this exciting news in the next edition!

Happy Golfing!
