New Head Teaching Professional

Newly appointed Head Teaching Professional, Jordan Harkin has been playing golf from a very young age and has loved it all his life. Jordan started his golfing journey at Tea Tree Gully Golf Club as a junior at the age of 14 and quickly grew a great passion for the game, playing almost every day throughout his teenage years.

Along his journey Jordan has had many successes, “as a junior, I played in a winning McMillan Shield Team, winning Junior Div 1 Pennant Team, won our Junior Club Championship, as well as winning 3 Junior Vardon events. I represented TTG in B grade pennant at the age of 18, and Simpson Cup team when I was 19 where I won our clubs award for most Simpson Cup wins for the season. I also won the TTG pennant players plaque two years running for dedication and achievement, and won the TTG Foursomes Championship.”

Jordan began his traineeship at Tea Tree Gully under Mark Gooding. “At TTG I was given a great opportunity to get involved with Junior coaching, both at the club and in schools, and in 2011 I won the Australian Active After-Schools Community Coaches Award.  In 2013 I took over as Junior Co-ordinator of the golf club where, using a program that I developed and piloted, was able to help grow our Junior program from 35 to 73 inside my first year.  This program is now being used by Golf SA and affiliated clubs around South Australia”.

In 2012 he successfully completed his PGA of Australia traineeship and during the training developed a keen interest in coaching and golf club technology.  He also received distinctions in Coaching, Club Technology, and Retail & Business Management, represented SA as Trainee Captain in his 3rd year, won the National Blue Boy Cup as well as local trainee events.  Further to this success, Jordan won the role as Club Professional at the Tea Tree Gully Golf Club, in conjunction with Drummond Golf SA.  Working as a part owner/ full time operator, he played a key role in completing major renovations to the shop, opening the whole western side looking over the 1st tee and almost doubling the shop floor size.  Due to the renovations he was able to quickly double the amount of stock on show, gain new accounts and broaden the range threefold.

Jordan has a wealth of experience in club fitting and in 2016 won a national competition with golf club manufacturer Ping where he was given the opportunity to tour the Ping factory in the US. The trip included visiting the Ping club fitting centre along with the Ping research and development offices.  Jordan’s enthusiasm for club fitting and coaching is evident when communicating with him.

Most recently Jordan has served as an Assistant Professional at Kooyonga Golf Club in an effort to pursue a career in coaching.  He gained valuable experience using V1 Golf, TrackMan, SAM Puttlab, BodiTrak and 3D Bodysuit Analysis.  He also gained his TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Level 2 Certification, Trackman certification, and advanced accreditation in coaching with the PGA of Australia. I have gained invaluable experience using V1 Golf, Trackman, SAM Puttlab, BodiTrak, and 3D Bodysuit Analysis.

“I am so excited to begin my new role as Head Teaching Professional at Glenelg Golf Club. It’s a course I have always loved. I can’t wait to meet the COM, members and team.  I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone and seeing your golf games improve!”

Thanks Jordan, we are excited to have you on board!
