Strong win in lead up to Bonnar final

Having already qualified for the final, it was important that the Bonnar boys finished the minor round strongly. And strongly they did with a 7 to 0 result against Blackwood.

It was a tight start to the contest, after 5 holes we were 1 down in 2 games, 1 up in 3 games and square in 2 games. However, over the next 8 holes, all boys lifted and by the 13th hole a strong win looked assured.

Andy Humphries at No. 7 recovered from 1 down after 8 to play strongly on the back 9 and record a 3/1 win.

At No. 6 Ben Winton also recovered from a slow start, he was 2 down after 4 but played solid golf to win 7 of the next 10 holes to win 5/4. Blackwood played their regular No.1 player at No.6 so the win for Ben was even more satisfying.

Harry Burner at No. 5 played steadily all day. 3 up after 10, he maintained that lead to win 3/2.

At No. 4 Frank Vucic was either square or 1 up for most of the round and he won the 17th to record a 2/1 victory.

Henry Duregon at No. 3 continued his strong season to record a 5/4 win.

Young Jack Buchanan, fresh from playing in the Queensland Junior through the week and shooting 69 in the last round, played at No. 2. After a slowish start, got his game going with some nice birdies to record a 6/4 win.

David Hiern at No. 1 had to pull some magic out of the bag to overcome his opponent who played some wonderful recovery shots. A tap-in eagle on the 9th by Hierny gave him a 2 up lead and he maintained that advantage to win 2/1 and give the Glenelg boys the 7 to 0 result.

We now play The Grange in the Bonnar Cup Final to be played next Sunday, 9th July at Flagstaff Hill. Timings have yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to be a mid morning tee off for any members who might like to come out and support the boys.

I would like to thank all the parents and caddies for their support through the season – one week to go!
