Sanderson Cup primed for final

Sanderson Cup TeamReport by Jill Hodge
Team Manager

Our girls got the job done and are now in the Sanderson Cup Pennant Final next Sunday vs The Grange at Royal Adelaide. We won on Sunday 3.5 to 1.5 against the home course team, and were treated to the course in excellent condition and perfect sunny weather.

We are very excited to be playing in the final once again and will have to produce our best golf to beat the undefeated Grange team. We hope as many people can come and support us this Sunday at Royal Adelaide with 3 Glenelg teams competing.

My aim for the start of the season was to win both Women’s A1 & A2 and I know we can do this! It’s been a great season for both teams so let’s finish it off and make it even better! Good luck to all the players selected this week.

Elysia Yap No. 1.

Elysia squared her match against Caitlin Peirce and played steady golf all day. She had a poor start to the back nine but was 2 up with 3 to go and her opponent holed 2 very long putts on 16 and 18 for birdies to see the match squared. She remains undefeated this season! Well done Elysia! One more to go!

Charley Jacobs No. 2

Charley defeated Susan Keylock 5/4 and played very good golf all day. She putted well on the tricky hills greens and was helped along by her experienced caddy Tony Martin. A good combination we are keeping for the final this Sunday. Well done Charley!

Josie Gale No. 3

Josie played Cathy Hayward and lost 5/3. Unfortunately Josie did not handle the tricky greens and had some poor drives but her opponent used her course knowledge well and showed her how to putt on their greens, holing some excellent putts. Hopefully Josie will bounce back this week on a course more favoured by us all.

Sarah Crocker No. 4

Sarah played very well the whole match and beat Acacia Curtis 6/4. She outplayed her opponent all day and found the greens a bit tricky at times but was hitting some quality shots, so keep that up Sarah.

Matilda Wheare No. 5

Tilly won her match 2/1 against Kathy Michaelson. Tilly was always the better player, but it did not go all her way due to a sore neck, and she had to dig deep for the last 4 holes to get the win in for the team. Well done in a tough match mentally for you and dad.

I would like to thank all the caddies – Bob Tuohy, Tony Martin, Andrew Hodge, Chris Crocker & Gavin Wheare.

Love to see lots of GGC members out cheering us on this week and supporting #Team Glenelg.

Practise hard this week – our job is not done yet but I believe we can do it!
