Put in a Tangle by ‘The Vines’

McMillan Shield TeamSome days you just have to tip your hat and acknowledge you were beaten by a better team on the day.  Despite going down to The Vines 6/1, many results were extremely close.

Everyone played some impressive golf, but we were shown time and time again the importance of having consistent short games by an opposition that seemed to ‘get up and down’ at will.

Special mention to our only winner of the day, Luke Sandford, who didn’t put a foot wrong in his 7/5 up result. Noah Collison was also impressive, hobbling his way around a five-hour round with blisters on both feet.  Leading all day, Noah learnt one of golf’s many hard lessons; going one down in a contest where the only time he found himself behind was on the last putt of the day.  Despite his obvious disappointment, Noah displayed typical Glenelg sportsmanship after the contest.

Thanks again to our outstanding cohort of caddies who braved the weather: Eliza Baker, Kane Hyams, Jack Tanner, and particularly nine-year-old Josh Grundel, who left a birthday party at ‘Bounce’ after one hour to get down to the Le Fevre Peninsula to support his teammates.

Next week we play Grange 2 and Grange in the final round of the competition; bring it on!
