Phil Maunder appointed to Committee

Phil Maunder in action during the 2015 Club ChampionshipsWe are pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Maunder to a casual vacancy on the Committee of Management (COM) following the recent resignation of Brett Jarrad.

Brett advised the COM of his resignation in early January citing his inability to contribute the appropriate amount of time required to be an active and valuable member of the COM due to family and work commitments.  We thank Brett for his services over the last six years and we hope to see him back on the COM at some stage in the future.

Phil has been an active member of the Club for almost 10 years, playing more than 100+ times per year.  He has also been lucky enough to play at over 100 golfer courses around Australia and a further 100 or so internationally.  On his appointment, Phil said “I have been a proud and passionate member of Glenelg Golf Club since 2007, and even though my golfing ability may be average that doesn’t kerb my passion for the game.”

Outside of golf, Phil has a major interest in sporting administration, governance and competition management. He is currently an executive board member of the Oceania & Commonwealth Weightlifting Federations and also an Olympic Weightlifting Technical Official, officiating at Commonwealth Games, multiple World and Continental championships and was also part of the competition management team at the Sydney Olympics.

Phil agrees 100% with the Club’s vision to be recognised by members and the golfing community as providing the best overall package of golf course, service and facilities in South Australia and ranked among the best in Australia.  He stated that “One of my primary aims is to make sure Glenelg Golf Club maintains a strong focus on attention to detail in everything we do and improve on our already world class facilities.”

We welcome Phil to the COM and look forward to his contribution to the management and strategic direction of the Club, albeit only for a few months, at which point Phil has indicated a keen desire to continue in a COM role if elected by members at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.
