Team Japan trained at Glenelg Golf Club this week with worlds best service providers. They arrived on Sunday after competing at the Australian Amateur Championship in Melbourne last week.
Glenelg Golf Club’s Head Teaching Professional, Gareth Jones, recently signed a contract to become Head Coach of the Japan Golf Association. It is a great opportunity that will see him set up and implement a new high performance program for Team Japan. The team will also work with sports scientiest Ryan Lumsden and physio Greg Rosenbauer.
Team Japan recently won the Nomura Cup in October 2015 for the first time since 1989, with Gareth as their appointed coach. The Men’s Asia-Pacific Teams Championship, or more commonly known as the Nomura Cup, is a biennial competition rotated among the Asia-Pacific region.
Glenelg Golf Club is excited about the opportunity to develop a close working relationship with JGA and to hopefully establish their first international training base here in Adelaide. Gareth plans to bring Team Japan to Glenelg Golf Club periodically during the year to allow the Japanese players the opportunity to train in Australian conditions at a championship golf course.
