Travel no obstacle for Shootout Champions

2015 Glenelg Shootout major prize champions - Best Net (Jack Buchanan & Harry Burner); Best Gross (Ben Layton & Will Starkey)

It seems travel was no obstacle for Glenelg’s Ben Layton & Will Starkey, who after only recently flying in from stints in the US, claimed the 2015 Glenelg Shootout event today.

Starkey only returned last week from his first college golf semester at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, whilst Layton arrived home a few days earlier after representing Australia at the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championships in Carlsbad, San Diego.

Clearly, any jet lag from the long haul flights has been all but forgotten as the two talented teenagers fired a 36-hole total of 136 in the Canadian Foursomes/2-Ball Ambrose format, defeating Kooyonga’s Jordan Bishop & Peter Johns on a countback for the title.  Both Bishop and Johns have also only recently returned from their first college semesters in the US.

Cleaning up in the 36-hole net event was Glenelg’s pairing of Jack Buchanan & Harry Burner who took out top honors by more than three shots from fellow Glenelg teammates, Mitch Ward & Austin Baker.

A special thank you to the event sponsors Schweppes Australia and Titleist Footjoy for their generous support of what is one of the most popular events on the SA golfing calendar.
