Glenelg to dominate SA Amateur finals on Sunday

Glenelg's Jenny Lee

Glenelg's Sam EarlGlenelg members will dominate the Men’s and Women’s SA Amateur Championship finals on Sunday with Jenny Lee to play off for her first state title whilst Sam Earl and Lachy Baker will face off against each other in their debut attempts to claim the top prize.

Lee has dominated the Amateur in 2015 after claiming the 2015 Vesta Cup by nine shots, and then winning her quarter final match 5/4.  A tough contest was faced in the semi-final this morning needing to go into extra time to eventually book her place in Sunday’s final.  Lee will take on second placed qualifier, Victoria Golf Club’s Stephanie Bunque in what is sure to be a close contest around the Kooyonga layout.

Glenelg's Lachy BarkerIn the men’s final, Glenelg will have two of its own competing for the first time in a very long time, with SA Medal winner and leading qualifier, Sam Earl, taking on 16-year old teenage prodigy Lachy Barker.  Both players have been in strong form through the matchplay competition with Earl’s only challenge coming in his round of 32 match against two-time SA Amateur Champion, Phil Chapman.  Barker has progressed through the rounds with solid wins against some quality opposition including fellow Glenelg member, Connor Chant, who he defeated in the semi-final this morning.

Both matches start from the first tee at Kooyonga Golf Club on Sunday morning, with the men’s matchplay final commencing at 8:00am, followed closely by the women’s matchplay final.

We wish all players the best of luck and encourage members to come out and support our players in their pursuit for the 2015 SA Amateur titles.
