Glenelg's Ben Layton

Boys Winners – Ben Layton (2nd), Liam Georgiadis (1st), Ben Polkinghorne (3rd) | Source: Golf SAGlenelg’s 16-year old left-handed sensation, Ben Layton, has qualified for the 2015 Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship Australian Final to be played at the Heritage Golf and Country Club in Melbourne in October after claiming second place in the State final held at North Adelaide today.

Layton, who has had a stellar 2015 pennant campaign for Glenelg, continued his good form firing an even par 71 around the South Course layout to tie with The Grange’s Liam Georgiadis and Flagstaff Hill’s Ben Polkinghorne.  It took a 4-hole playoff to eventually determine the winner, with Georgiadis taking the title ahead of Layton and Polkinghorne.

Lachlan Barker and fellow Glenelg junior, Josh Gumm, who only recently joined the Club, finished in a tie for 5th place, shooting 3-over 74’s, with Liam Kennewell a further shot back tied in 7th position.  Gumm also took out the handicap event with a net 67.

Emma Sutton, who has also recently joined Glenelg, finished in 3rd position in the girl’s championship.

The top two girls and boys placegetters – Kristalle Blum/Ella Adams and Liam Georgiadis/Ben Layton – will now compete in the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship Australian Final on 17th & 18th October 2015 at the Heritage Golf and Country Club in Melbourne.
