Women’s Grade 1 smash second placed Grange in finals precursor

Glenelg's Elysia Yap

Report by Cathy Johnson (Manager)

This week our Glenelg Golf Club A1 Women had their toughest assignment. They played the second placed and undefeated Grange, and they performed magnificently.

Jill Hodge at number 5, with husband Andrew caddying, made a strong return from pneumonia, carding four birdies and finishing two over the card for a 2/1 win over very young, very strong opposition – a great job

Josie Hodge at number 4, was battling poor health and struggled to maintain her early lead. She unfortunately lost 3/1

Sophie James at number 3, had a slow start but had a birdie from the fairway on the 6th hole, an up and down par from a bunker on the 7th followed by another birdie on nine to be square at the turn. She then played perfect par golf until a great birdie on 16 won her the match 3/2.

Elysia Yap at number 2, played very steady golf to be square after four and 1 up after nine. She then got on a role and was 3 up after 11, 4 up after 13 and closed out her match on 14 for a fantastic 5/4 win.

Jenny Lee had a very tough match against quality opposition – despite six birdies and an eagle she was only 1 up standing on the 18th tee. She halved the last to win her match 1 up – an exciting match!

Our ladies are on track to defend their Championship and play in their 4th final in a row. They would love support from Glenelg Golf Club members for their final round next week at Glenelg.
