We are pleased to advise that teams have been announced for the opening round of the 2014 Golf SA Pennant Season.
Week one will see the Men’s Simpson Cup team open their campaign against Stirling (formerly Mt Lofty Golf Club) at Highercombe Golf Club on Sunday, 18th May, hitting off from 1st tee at 12:10pm. The team, aiming to end an 11 year drought and collect Glenelg’s first Simpson Cup title since 2003, looks strong despite some movement within the ranks that has seen the departure of former Club Champion, Matt McGowan, Lachlan Booth and Andrew Grzybowski. 2011 Club Champion and seasoned pennant campaigner, Leigh Attenborough, returns this year following a short lay-off, whilst Henry Duregon takes his place in the team for only his second ever match in the elite competition.
The Bonnar Cup side will start their season against Mt Osmond at The Vines Golf Club, hitting off from the 10th tee at 11:15am, and will be looking to go one step further this year after going down to The Grange in the Bonnar Cup final in 2013. The team has some new names, and some “old” new names to form a solid line up. With Luke Bashford, Lee Cole, Sam Hynes and Michael Ratajewski all missing from last year’s finals line up, this year’s team sees some youthful regeneration with Sam Raschella, Will Starkey and Braeden Kelly all taking their place in the side. Another former Club Champion, James McDonald, makes his pennant return after an absence due to injury with previous representatives, James Brown, John Noble and James Bridgen rounding out the team.
The Women’s Grade 2 team will also be looking to make amends after their disappointing loss against Royal Adelaide in the 2013 final at Kooyonga Golf Club. This year, the team is as strong as ever, with 2013 finalists, Sue Tuohy, Sue Raggatt and Sam White again in the side, and 2013 manager, Ruth Martin, returning to the fold as a player. Bec Hughes makes her Pennant debut for the Club rounding out the team of five. The Women’s Grade 2 team commence their campaign on Monday, 12th May at Mt Osmond Golf Club against The Grange.
The Women’s Cleek Stick team start their season off against The Grange at Mt Osmond Golf Club commencing from 11:30am from the 10th tee.
