Glenelg in prime condition as Murdaca flies local flag

Glenelg Golf Club is in prime condition, as 144 of the best male and female amateurs from around the country gather for the 2014 Golf SA Classic and Rene Erichsen Salver.

SA’s strongest hope is without doubt Australia’s third ranked amateur, Anthony Murdaca. Playing events all around the globe Murdaca said “this event (SA Classic) always ranks highly in my schedule. This year in particular features a really strong field with a large number of Australia’s top players. The course is up with the best we play internationally. It’s pretty rare we are treated to a course of this standard.”

Murdaca in action at Glenelg during the Golf SA Pennant seasonMurdaca will be heading to the UK for three months later in the year, playing in the Scottish Amateur, Links Trophy and British Amateur but is very much in the moment, primed and focussed for this week’s Classic. “I’ve been practicing pretty hard for this event and I’m feeling pretty confident for a good week. I practice here at Glenelg quite a bit when I have lessons with Gareth Jones (Glenelg’s Head Coach) so it’s always nice to play on a course you know really well. It’s a great opportunity for a lot of the local SA boys to show what they’ve got on the national stage”, Murdaca said.

With the Interstate series on the horizon, a number of players will be hoping to play themselves into some good form. When asked about SA’s chances in the upcoming Interstate series, Murdaca said “There’s a great feeling amongst the group this year. It’s a strong team and we’ll certainly be pushing for a good result.

Glenelg Golf Club, currently ranked 28th in the country by Golf Australia Magazine, will host the four rounds of the Golf SA Classic (men) and Rene Erichsen Salver (women) from Thursday, 3rd April to Sunday, 6th April 2014.
