McMillan Shield – Round 5
Glenelg 2 lost to Grange Gold 5 at Kooyonga Golf Club
With Liam Kennewell missing in action, Jack Wheare was required step up to the plate and lead Glenelg off playing against Grange’s number 1 McMillan shield player. Grange were literally too tall and too strong. By the third hole we were 2 or 3 down in all matches but one. With Glenelg giving away 3 or 4 shots in handicap advantage in every match and a good 30 meters off of the tee blocks, Grange were able to lead from the front and dominate all day.
There were however some noted highlights. Jack Wheare holed a bunker shot on the 9th which drew applause from the Grange opposition. Lachie Roberts played some great golf rallying from 3 down to be 1 up heading down the 18th, unluckily his match ending all square on the last putt of the day. Josh Hodgson’s solid form continued coming from 2 down to steam roll his opponent with a series of pars, ending his match with a solid 10 foot putt for another par on the 13th. Well played Josh. And Jack Buchanan never gave up winning the final 2 holes to square his match.
Despite the score line, the boys camaraderie was spirited and they really enjoyed playing at Kooyonga. Next stop Tea Tree Gully.
