McMillan Shield update from Rounds 3 and 4

Liam KennewellMcMillan Shield – ROUND 4

Glenelg Lost to Thaxted Park 4 games to 3 at The Vines Golf Club

Glenelg handed Thaxted park top spot on the McMillan Shield table this week.  With one player down, GGC needed to win 4 from 6 games to retain top spot.  Liam and Jackson were always in control of their matches both being 6 up after 12 holes.  Jack finished off his match with a magnificent birdie on The Vines’ toughest hole and Liam with a solid par on the next hole.

Josh also dominated the front nine to be 6 up before his opposition rallied.  Josh held on to win 2/1 returning 3 wins from 3 matched this season.

The Buchanan boys had tough match-ups.  Jack’s opponent could do no wrong making par after par playing the game of his life.  Aaron had it even tougher playing off of the Blue tees giving his female opponent both distance and shots, doing well to extend the match deep into the back 9.

Teeing off last, Jack Tanner’s match turned out to be the one that got away.  Finding himself in unfamiliar territory, four down after not too many and giving his opponent one shot on every hole. Jack rallied to be all square through 15 holes standing on the Par 3, 6th tee box after starting on the back 9.  Jack’s tee shot trickled off the back, leaving an easy lag putt to within 1 foot from the hole.  His opponent recovered from a bad tee shot to be 5 feet away after 3 shots and the hole, and match looked like ours.  But to her credit, the 5 footer was sunk and Jack just needed to tap in for a half.  To the bewilderment of everyone, Jack had a brain fade, picking up his marker conceding the hole, and so too our chance of retaining top spot.

Still a great effort from the team who are looking forward to playing Grange Gold at Kooyonga next week.

McMillan Shield – ROUND 3

Glenelg Defeated Tea Tree Gully 5 Games to 2 at Glenelg Golf Club

Glenelg Golf Club hosted round 3 of the McMillan Shield teeing off against an inexperienced but enthusiastic Tea Tree Gully team.

It was a red letter day for Glenelg, or should I say ‘J’ letter day with Jackson, Jack B, Josh, Jack T and Jack W all winning their matches. Lachie also took out the reserves match. Jackson, Jack B and Jack T finished off their matches by the 12th hole all shooting under their handicaps.  Josh secured a win on the final hole while Jack W and Lachie sealed the deal with their first wins for the season. Liam and Aaron fought hard all day only to go down in the last few holes.

Thank you to Glenelg GC for hosting the McMillan Shield and supporting Junior golf in SA
