Glenelg has claimed its 20th Women’s A1 Pennant title and back to back flags, by defeating The Grange 4 – 1 in a strong showing.

Played at Glenelg in cold and grey conditions with intermittent rain, Glenelg reversed the result from earlier in the season, when Grange took the points 3-2.

With mother and daughter duo, Jill and Josie Hodge joining last year’s premiership team of Jenny Lee, Elysia Yap and Amy Zhou, Glenelg fielded a formidable line up.

At number five Jill Hodge didn’t disappoint, proving too strong for Jean Foo 4&3 while Josie Hodge outplayed promising junior Ella Adams 4&2.

At number one, Australian Amateur runner up, Jenny Lee, was matched against experienced former state player Louise Glennon. Playing some exquisite shots throughout the contest, Lee outclassed Glennon, winning 7&6.

With Glenelg having claimed the 3 matches required to win the title, the contests still in progress between Amy Zhou and Cassidy Evreniadis and Elysia Yap and Kristalle Blum, ceased, resulting in halves.

The final score, therefore being a 4-1 win to Glenelg, pleasing Team Manager, Heather Waddy and all the Glenelg supporters, who braved the conditions to cheer on the team.

“They are a very talented team of girls, professional in their attitude to the game and committed to the team. I’m immensely proud of their performance on and off the course”. Waddy said.

“At our pre Pennant dinner, I said to the girls, anyone can win a title, but your not a true champion until you comeback and defend it.” Waddy added.
