RA too good for Women’s A2 girls in pennant final

Glenelg’s Women’s Grade 2 team were resoundly defeated by a much stronger Royal Adelaide side today in the Women’s Grade 2 final played at Kooyonga Golf Club.

The team, looking to defend their title from 2012, got off to a slow start and things failed to improve for the players after that.  Two early losses from the normally reliable Sue Tuohy and Cathy Johnson made the result much harder to achieve, however there was some light with Sue Raggatt taking her game down the 18th hole, whilst youngsters, Jess Burns and Samantha White were still battling away in the last two games.  Unfortunately, some extremely solid golf from Sue’s opponent up the final hole could not be topped, with Sue losing her match 2 down, and the title being handed over to Royal Adelaide with three matches in the bag.

Samantha and Jess battled on despite the final result guaranteed, with Samantha losing up the 17th hole.  Jess restored some much needed glory for Glenelg with a fighting win on the 18th hole, to make the final result four matches to one.

The entire team played well all season to finish in 2nd place on the ladder after their 5-0 steamrolling of Mt Osmond in the final week, but the title was always going to be tough effort against the solid Royal Adelaide group.  Congratulations to all of the A2 players and their caddies for a dedicated team effort.  We all look forward to next year.
