Bonnar Cup team reach finals after success in must-win match

Report by Wayne Humphries
(Team Manager)

A match that we had to win to make the Final and achieve our first major goal for the season – and to the player’s credit they duly got the job done.

After nine holes we were up in four games and down in three.

Michael Ratajewski at No. 7 was back to one up after nine after being three up after four but played steady golf on the back nine to increase his advantage to win 3/2. A great season to date for Rat with four wins, two halves and just the one loss.

Henry Duregon at No. 6 came from one down after three to be two up after nine and holed some nice putts on the back nine to also win 3/2. That made three out of three wins for Henry to date,

Lee Cole at No.4 had a titanic battle all day – he was either one up or two up for the entire game – still just the one up playing the last he managed to win the last and his game two up. A very successful season to date for Lee with five wins, a half and one loss.

Sam Hynes at No. 2 continued his fine season – he recovered from one down after nine9 to win 3/2. Sam has now won all three of his games this season.

Luke Bashford at No. 1 relished the challenge. His opponent had not been beaten all year, but Bash got off to a flying start to be four up after nine and continued his dominance on the back nine to win 5/4. With four wins, one half and just the one loss Bash has had a great year to date.

In the meantime Will Starkey at No. 5 was facing a huge challenge – his opponent was having a day out and after being three down after nine, Will found himself fie down after twelve. Will then won four of the next five holes with birdies on 16 and 17 to get to the last just one down. However his opponent nailed his approach shot on the last to within two feet to win the hole to see Will lose his game two down. So far Will has had four wins and three losses (including one loss in Simpson Cup).

Matty Mudford at No. 3 had a nice birdie two on the 8th hole to get his game back to square but had some lapses on the greens after that which saw him lose holes that he could potentially have won or at least halved. This resulted in Matt losing his game 3/2 to give Matt two wins, two halves and three losses for the season to date.

I would like to thank all the caddies for their efforts and the Simpson Cup players and other club members who came out to support the players in this crucial match.

So the ultimate challenge has arrived….The Final this Sunday against Grange at Mt. Osmond from 11.50am.

All club members and supporters are most welcome to come out and support the team in their endeavor to win the Bonnar Cup.

The Grange team is very strong and they will fancy their chances but as you can see from the above player results we are in with a real chance to upset their party. The Glenelg boys have certainly put in consistent performances every week and have prepared themselves for this Finals assault.

SEIZE THE MOMENT – THIS IS OUR TIME.
