Junior win keeps finals hope within reach

Report by James McDonald
(Team Manager)

Our opponent this week was the Grange Green team, the third of the Grange teams.  They are a young team but have a couple of guns to watch out for in the future.

We were led out by Liam Kennewell playing his second ever pennant game.  Liam hits a straight ball and putts the dots off it, he is still learning the match play game and it took him the front nine to warm up.  By the time he got to the back nine he was firing and ended up making short work of his opponent winning 5/4

Todd Williams was next out and he had the biggest victory of the day.  Todd has been playing better golf as the season has progressed.  He is hitting a long straight ball and keeping his concentration for the whole match.  He was in control of his match right from the get go and won comfortably 8/7

Jack Hynes was rock solid again.  He continued to display his great ball striking and solid match play game.  He was deadly accurate off the tee which is a must around Flagstaff Hill.  He made numerous birdies and his result was never in doubt winning his game 6/4

Sam Raschella played at two and battled himself and a strong little opponent all day.  Sam wasn’t playing his best but battled to win 1 up on the last.

Haydn Booth came across a young tough opponent who is a player to watch out for in the future.  His opponent was Jamie Smith, 11 years of age and about the same height as his driver. He made three birdies and kept Haydn honest all day.  Haydn did well and kept his patience eventually grinding the win out 2/1.

After losing the first round of the year the team has stuck to the task well for the rest of the season.  We have won every week since and as a result they have given themselves a chance to make the final.  This week we face the 1st Grange team and a win or tie will get us into the final at Glenelg.  The guys know they are good enough to win and they have been building to this; I hope I have positive news to report next week.
