Glenelg’s Simpson Cup campaign off to a strong start

Report by Geoff Attenborough
(Simpson Cup Manager)

Glenelg’s Simpson Cup team has had a very good start to the pennant season with a strong win over Flagstaff Hill on Sunday winning 4-1/2 matches to 2-1/2 matches.

In trying conditions of strong winds and rain, all players worked extremely hard in the elements to get the team away to the desired result.

Andrew Gryzbowski  set the scene with a decisive 5/4 win at number seven, followed with wins by new recruits, Josh Hayes (a most promising junior from Fleurieu Golf Club) and Matt Overall (an exciting recruit from Royal Adelaide).  Lachlan Booth gave us the win with a determined effort at number two, winning 2/1.  Our other three players, Anthony Olsen, who finished with a halved match, Matt McGowan and Campbell Rawson, did not have wins, but could easily have given us a clean sweep with a little luck going their way.

All players played well and have set the standard we expect for the season.
